The works included in this series show figures masked and unmasked, existing in a space that is hidden by organic shapes that conceal and reveal the figures. The bodies are transitioning between spaces, moving with fluidity, existing with symbols that alter what we see of them. The bright colour palette also moves away from reality, the world they occupy is one of colour, imagined and revealed in snapshots of a world far away from the one we currently occupy.
British painter Rebecca Sammon’s bold, poetic pieces pulse with vibrant immediacy. Her pieces are inspired by nature and the human form within abstracted landscapes, moving from themes of mythical narrative into the more ambiguous, fluid space of uncertainty. The balance of delicate figures is often layered with varied marks where shapes, florals or scenes emerge.
